September 21,2014 Prayer

It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart. - Mahatma Ghandi

This past month or so has been a hectic time. As many of you know I keep a book called "One Day At A Time." It is a book for those who request prayers. The prayer requests that are entered run the full range of concerns of people just like you and I. If you feel you can't touch someone else's pain because you are different than they are you are wrong. Because we are all a part of humanity its is always possible we could find ourselves in their shoes. Prayer DOES change things. Many prayers have been answered recently. Some things were a total surprise, some were as prayed for and others not yet answered that we can see. Not all prayers are visibly answered but they are answered. This past several weeks I found myself praying day and night. Even waking up at night and praying for I knew not what but praying in earnest. Even pausing at the feeling that something horrible had happened but not knowing what but praying for it. Some of you, I know, have experienced this. We are all called to pray for one another and support one another in our times of need. Prayer is not supposed to be heavy or light, too much or too little. The Lord wants our prayers to be short, to the point and unencumbered. He already knows what is needed and sometimes just waits for us to ask. Pray with the expectation that there will be an answer. He will provide according to His will. Some of my prayers took 30 years or more to be answered. Some will not be realized as they are not in His will. That is OK. He provides abundantly and cares for us. Pray for others and make a difference in lives.

For in this use of the Holy Spirit Jesus became a model for all Christians. Philippians 2:7 tells us that Christ Jesus laid aside (emptied Himself of) His divine privileges when He became a man; so Luke 4:1 indicates that He conducted His earthly ministry in the power and enabling of the Holy Spirit. His ministry thus becomes a model that all the regenerate can emulate, for He conducted it as a man, not in His power as God.

Many thanks to all who dropped by to wish me a happy birthday. Mary H. of Carolina Cards by Mary H sent a card of thanks for participating in the TCBH. Thank you Mary. That was very thoughtful and appreciated.

Included with the package was a red rubber stamp. It is very appropriate since it is for Thanksgiving.

I actually retreated for several days and just painted and talked with the Lord in prayer. Therapeutic and filling. I did visit a few people that commented and returned the kindness. A bit more got done but most of it was the larger areas. It is beginning to look more like the image on the box. Jill said what was done was beautiful. I am inclined to agree. There is a lot of finer detail left to do that I'm sure will take some time to do. Here is what is done so far.

These were the paints used this time to bring the painting to this point. 11/61 is the one currently being used and the most used color of them all both for being on its own and in combinations to get some of the other colors.

There are areas needing to be blended together but they are being saved until near the end.

I will be taking a few days break and visiting everyone I can and commenting probably starting tomorrow. No card making this time around, sorry! I just want to catch up with what all of you are doing and let you know Cherokee and I are still around. I am pushing to get things done before winter really sets in. Remember to always LOVE THE DETAILS.

  1. I have decided I want to live there! (the thought would have horrified me when the kids were little, but now they're older I hope I could trust them not to fall into the sea!) It's looking really lovely so far Jim!

And such a pretty card you received too! Got to love happy mail. :-)

  2. Jim that painting is magnificent, even at this point!!
I know what you are saying about prayer - it is a powerful tool in the hands of a sincere, and obedient pray-er, and is not limited by time or space. Bless you for your obedience in this.

  6. Enjoyed the inspiring post, and a great way to start this week. Prayer is so very powerful; we all need it, we all need to remember to do it. And to say Thank You for the blessings bestowed. Just as dialog between each other is vital, dialog with the Father is also much to be desired. And then listen for the replies. They WILL come. Maybe not what we thought was wanted or needed, but what actually WAS needful. Ya'll have a great week. Hope you'll enjoy the T'giving stamp. Blessings.

  16. Good to see you back on board Your painting is coming along nicely
If we were able to sit over a cup"of" we would have a great discussion on pain and who feels it for whom
I have RSD both legs/feet and left forearm/hand and would never expect anyone to know I am in pain at level 9 24/7 and I would never doubt or expect to understand someone else's pain I just pray they are not in as much pain as I.........my favorite thought is "I am in pain but i don't have to be one" ............Lis .

  24. Not sure if my comments went through Jim. Please delete this one if they did. thank you for commenting on my blog. It has been a long time since I have put anything on there. In fact it has been about four months. I have enjoyed strolling through your blog and have loved reading what you have written. You are such a talented man. Oh to write with such elegance. I noticed that your birthday is the same day as mine. the 15th September. I just turned 65. I never thought I would make it to that age but God had other plans deciding that it wasn't my time. looking forward to seeing the end results of your colour by numbers painting. so far it looks wonderful. God bless Maz

  25. I love how the painting is coming along, Jim--I agree with Jill--it's beautiful! We tend to forget that sometimes God's answer is no--not that he didn't hear our prayer. Mary's card to you is so lovely & bet you'll enjoy using that stamp. Happy belated birthday!

  26. WOW, the painting has come a long way since you first showed the picture on the box. Big undertaking, but must be therapeutic. I'd like to thank you for being one of those you have prayed for, and the beautiful card I received from you and Jill.

Although we didn't receive the end result we were praying for, we know peace in the ending. Again, thanks so much.

Big Hug to you and Jill

Since, I get to see your work up close...smile. I know how many little spaces you had to fill, and you have NOT gone outside the lines! Amazing!

  29. Wow, your painting is certainly coming more to life each time I see it. Its incredible what a few colours here and there will do and I bet you can't wait till its finished. Although I feel you probably enjoy the process of painting just as much as finishing!!

  30. Opps, I am behind again! Happy Birthday Jim! Hope it was wonderful, but I just know it was because you are a person who enjoys things and appreciates them. Love, love, love your comments about prayer! One of the best things about prayer that I have ever read. Love the quote from Gandhi as well. Will be sharing that for sure. It would make a great card too... Your painting is really looking good - love how great the rocks look already. Great stuff here my friend - a true treasure of a post. Give Jill a hug for me and yourself too.

  37. Loving your progress with the painting! I am just back from out of town...the beautiful West of Colorado and Moab Utah- visited my son. I ran thru a resale shop right before I left and found a book for $1.00 and the topic was prayer. Your write up echo's what was said in the book- Pray for his will! Love this : ) I am trying to slow my mind down enough to concentrate better during the day- I will start to pray and all of the sudden I am doing other things...... Have a Blessed day

  38. Your painting is indeed beautiful Jim so I have to agree with your wife. I can't even imagine how beautiful it will be once done. It all but takes my breath now. Momma Mary is a class act isn't she?! I love her pieces. I so get what you said about prayer. I find myself praying at all times, night or day. Like you, sometimes I wake up at night and pray, pray, pray. I know that things are not my will, but the Lords. I pray, but I also pray for it to be His will. I know that all prayers are answered, maybe not the answer we wanted, but none the less answered. Thank you so much for that wonderful piece. I truly believe in prayer and know for hand that it works. I've had a son who have deployed 5 times and will be leaving next summer on his 6th deployment-I so believe that it is prayer that brings him back home to us and when he leaves, I contact all I know to put him on their prayer list. I've turn over my husband's cancer to the Lord. I know how blessed we are and I know he will continue to bless us. There are so many chemo drugs now and that the Lord guides the doctors in using these drugs. My husband is not curable but he is treatable and I thank the good Lord for that! Whatever time we have we will make the best of it and just enjoy each other, our life, our children and our grandchildren and we will continue to trust in our God. Hugs, Brenda

  39. Your post on prayer, and then reading Brenda's comment above (I love Brenda!!) have me nearly in tears; the power of prayer is very real! Thank you both for reminding me. As for your painting: more gorgeous every time you share it with us. I think I'd like to live in that house, overlooking the water, keeping the beacon in the lighthouse visible to all who need it...
