On The mend and Blessed

It has been awhile since the accident and last post. Healing and gaining strength back has been only part of the process. Since that time I read the actual emergency room report. It is described as "retroperitonial bleeding" and is a rare life threatening problem. It includes bleeding from an organ (my case), tumor, pelvic fractures and aneurisms to mention a few. I was informed at the time that they were considering admitting me to the ICU unit but decided not to after consulting with the surgeon on duty. Whew!

What was not shared is that I knew I was in serious trouble while in transit to the hospital. I felt there was a chance this could be fatal. Yes I felt that bad. I told the Lord "I place myself in Your hands. Whatever will be will be." At that moment a calm peace set in. Since then much has changed in how life is perceived. It is not clear what direction that will take but there is a definite change in direction. Jill and I are much closer than we were before. That is amazing in itself. There is a different attitude from family members, well, most family members. Many friends and neighbors have been most supportive as well. Some of you left comments to the last post that really were a great blessing to me. I have not gotten back to all of you but I will. Your posts have been kept and will be answered.

Walking for gaining strength is getting better each week. Currently it is up to 3500 to 4500 steps, that does not include 1000 to 1500 steps when making supper, grocery shopping or other routine things during the day. It sounds like a lot but most of the day is spent resting or sitting. DW insists I not exert myself to much yet. LOL. "Yes Mother!"

Since then windows 7 has been replaced with windows 10. That was not an easy transition. It took about a week until everything was ironed out, settings changed and programs updated, etc. Then there is the matter of creating system images and backups as well as emergency system repair disks. This was done for 3 computers. Angst was not a good things for a day or two. Jill was not happy about that part. It has taken me a bit to feel comfortable using the new system. Here I am and hopefully all goes well with this post.

I haven't worked much doing artwork because the sitting position causes discomfort. This heat wave is also hard. There is no air conditioning in the room my computer is in. I am beginning to create again and will share what is done when finished. For now it is hoped a few special photos will do as a replacement.

The first two images are of a red tailed hawk. The first one he was  playing hide and seek with me. The second he was just looking to see what he could capture for a meal.

The next image is a broad wing hawk. The are smaller than the Red tail hawks.

The hawk had just caught and dispatch a squirrel.

Here he is protecting his prize from a red tail hawk that was cruising overhead. He actually crouched down and spread his wings over the squirrel to keep it from being stolen. Amazing!

Hope you enjoyed your visit. As soon as this heat lets up I will be visiting blogs to comment. Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. Remember to always Love The Details. God Bless.

  3. Hi Jim your post is such a joy I am so pleased you have let us all know how you are doing . I'm delighted for you that things are getting better but as Jill advised take it all slowly you will get there in the end my friend . I didn't change my Windows 8 to 10 for the reasons you described it took me ages to get to grips with 8 and I read on a few blogs that it wasn't kind to blogger either so I took the decision not to upgrade no doubt it will come when I need to replace my laptop. I look forward to the day you can post some of your fab art work Look after yourself my friend Love to you and Jill Hugs Carole x

  4. Do you think that broad wing hawk is fooling anyone with that big fluffy squirrel tail sticking out from his backside? What a smile that put on my face. I'll bet you were pleased to see it in person. Anyway, your post is quite timely because I was just thinking of you this morning and here you are! How wonderful. It seems your life is on a very good track right now. They say people don't or can't change but that simply cannot be true. If nothing else, major life events such as an almost fatal accident will change things. Plus there are all these little odds and ends things that impact us all the time. Take care, my friend.

  5. So glad you are feeling better. I had missed your other post abt your fall. Ouch. So sorry to hear of the seriousness of the situation. God is good. So grateful to Him for keeping His protective hand over you.

I enjoyed seeing your hawk photos. I am terrible at identifying the raptors, though we have a lot of them around. One bird species we have here that is unmistakable: Great Gray Owls. LOVE seeing them....huge, ghostly, relatively tame, and active even in the daylight hours of the morning and evening. Birders come from all over to see our Great Grays...a life bird for many of them and a yard bird for me. :)

You came to my mind last evening while I was looking at the Saturn, Mars, Antares, and the Moon all clustered together....and waiting for it to get dark enough to glimpse a few Perseids. We had a good sky for it last night and, although I was busy doing things past midnight, I went out for a few minutes to look for the meteors. I was rewarded with a half dozen in just over that many minutes. Good show. It might be too cloudy here tonight to see much. Hope you get to see them.

Blessings and prayers for a complete recovery!

  8. Oh my goodness Jim, after reading this my jaw was hanging on the floor. I knew you were hurt bad because of the length of healing, but reading it really lets us know just how bad it really was! Don't you love the peace that comes over once you pray about something?!! I love that peaceful feeling, the calm, the "stress removed" from prayer. It's amazing to me when it happens, not because I don't believe it but that it is happening to me!! I just had that peace come over me just last week. It really gives comfort that all is going to be ok. I agree with Jill and I think you should take things slow and rest often, but your body will also tell you when to back off. So listen to it!! Your photo's are stunning!! I love that you got photo's of the hawks. I see them here, but never see them on the yard with their food! I did have a hawk dive down in front of my car just before turning into my road, he was going for a mouse. lol I had seen the mouse go scurrying and then before I knew it a hawk dove down right in front of me. That is as up close as I've gotten to one. Beautiful creatures and I love the one with the fluffy tail!! Prayers for a complete recovery Jim and prayers for you and Jill! Big hugs, Brenda

  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident and thank goodness you are alright. It must have been so frightening but sounds like your doctors and nurses took very good care of you. So glad your gradually getting better and taking it slowly. Must to good to know that you have this condition so if you did happen to have a fall you would be able to get help asap. Your photos are amazing. We have hawks in New Zealand and quite a few in Blenheim here because of all the vineyards. The mice love to live amongst the grapevines and cause all sorts of problems, so vineyards bring in the hawks to get rid of them. Keep doing what your doing, take your time and look forward to your artwork when your feeling better.

  10. I'm glad your recovery is going well, Jim. Don't try to rush it! One of the benefits of retirement is being able to go at a comfortable pace. Your hawk photos are amazing. At first I thought that the broad tailed hawk had a tail like a squirrel. I'm glad you explained that! Isn't nature amazing? Blessing of good health are wished for you. Listen to Jill. She has your best interests at heart!

  11. Hello Jim! Thanks for your lovely visit to my blog. So sorry to hear about your fall in the garden! You shared a wonderful testimony how you were ready to give it out of your control and into the Hands of God. And that afterwards your perspective changed towards those around you... All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose - bless you Jim!

  12. Glad you're improving, Jim! I can only imagine how an experience like that will change one's outlook! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog--you & Jill are in my thoughts! Guess we're getting your heat--triple digits for 3 days, but at least we don't get the terrible humidity!

I hope she too is feeling better by now. TFS those great photos too - for a minute I thought I was looking at a bird with a big, bushy tail! Ha ha! Great camera work. Continued success on the road back to good health - stay strong!

  16. Thank you for the update, Jim. You have had a rough go recovering from this potentially fatal injury. I'm pleased to see that you are slowly but surely recovering with God's grace and a ton of help from Jill. I miss you both over at my place, but you are never far from my thoughts or prayers. Big gentle hugs to you both! Darnell

  17. Oh dear, this is not a good way to spend your summer! Glad, though, to read that you are on the mend, and do what Mother advises! You know Mom knows best and has your best interests at heart!!! It sounds very scary, and I'm so thankful that you were in Good Hands, all the way. It is good that you had the peace descend upon you when you placed things in the Proper Hands. He took good care of you. Enjoyed seeing the nature pictures, and you just rest & mend, follow instructions, and enjoy life as much as possible. Isn't it too bad that we let emergencies remind us of the important things of our lives? I'm glad you have a good support structure as you continue on your healing journey. God Bless and Take care, both of you. Hugs & blessings.

  18. WOW, it has been awhile. So sorry to hear of your accident. So scary to think that such a serious fall can happen routinely in our own backyards. I am glad you are feeling better and on the mend. Must have stressed poor Jill out too. I know the feeling tell her, my husband fell 20 foot in our yard from a ladder while trimming a tree. He broke is back and 18 bones in either wrist. Three operations later and a month in the hospital, and 4 months off work. He recovered completely and we thank God everyday for that.(it has been 20 years ago now) Please know I am thinking of you both and will keep you in my prayers for a full recovery. Love the pictures, they are amazing, and although I feed my little squirrels all winter, I do recognize the food chain when it comes to animals. Magnificent birds. Take care, will check back with you soon to see how things are going.

    Big Hug to you both
    Sue

  20. Jim, I had no idea you'd been having medical issues! Reading this post, my heart went out to you so much. I've seen with my Jim, some of the things I know you're going though trying to get back on your feet again. Please take care and like Jill said, take it easy. Life is short I know, but just take one step at a time!
    Hugs and Prayers........
