January 7, 2015 Change

There is little in this life that is guaranteed. Change is one of them. Much has happened in the roughly three months that I was absent from blog land. The world has gone on. It has moved on as it always has. Each of you has had your experiences in life that marks what change is all about whether unnoticed or traumatic. Change is always present.

It is difficult to tell of the changes that have happened in three short months. There has been a sense of greater bonding in my marriage. There is greater awareness of life and how important it is to cherish every moment. Most of all, there is a sense of the presence of our Lord. Spending an hour or more in reading the word and praying and spending even a few moments of quiet time to listen or just be in His presence several times a day has profound effects on us. These things change us not only inwardly but outwardly as well. I used to take a one day pilgrimage to an overlook on a mountain south of Gettysburg, Pa at least once a year. It was known as Indian lookout point. It was a magical place that had a long beautiful view and a huge rock where you could sit and meditate and just be with the Lord. It is no longer accessible and I miss it. Change is inevitable but it need not be a bad thing. All things are given that we may become stronger and wiser in His ways. Always be glad for what you are living and thank Him for all things.

From my book of poetry and prose: (copyrighted)

I often see others become envious or even depressed when someone close to them experiences a powerful "revelation" or "touch" from God. It isn't the earth shattering religious experience that keeps us or makes us whole but the realization that every moment we live is an incomprehensible touch from God. Life continues but sudden experiences fade and become diluted with time. Life, on the other hand, renews itself constantly and is a constant, living, flowing revelation.

Today I would like to share a card that was sent to me by Kimberly Wiener. Kimberly is a bubbly and very talented card artist. The card she sent was one she posted on her blog. It is very elegant and simple but extraordinary. I apologize for the poor image. It does not due proper justice to this gorgeous card. Her image was much better than this. Thank you Kimberly.

I have not done much for shout outs of those of you who have chosen to follow my blog and in other ways support me in my humble efforts to share what little talent I have. All of you have much more talent than I and I will pick several of you each post and give you a shout out. Thank you.

First is My dear wife Jill. Her blog is Ribbon Challenged. Without her influence I would not be posting this at all. She is very talented and has shown me much in the way of crafting cards. I could say lots of nice things about this extraordinary lady but you might think that was because I am prejudiced. YOU WOULD BE TOTALLY CORRECT. LOL.

Next is Shirley from Boxes of Dogs. She actually does have boxes of dogs. Read the very top of her blog and you will understand. Her card making talents are not to be missed either. Be sure to scroll down and take in some of her work.

The final for today is Lynn whose moniker is Jimlynn of Creative Crafts by Lynn. Lynn is one of the first to follow my blog and is a sweet heart and a talented card maker. It is obvious she enjoys making her cards and sharing them with us. Be sure to check out more than just the most recent post. You won't be disappointed.

I have been too busy to do more on the painting but I do have some photos to share from our recent visit to Longwood Gardens. Longwood is the estate of Pierre S. du Pont (1870–1954). It is one of the premier botanical gardens in the US and is located Near Kennet Square in southeastern Pennsylvania. It consists of over 1077 acres (1.68 square miles) of woodlands, gardens and meadows. The pictures are mainly of the summer gardens, conservatory and Christmas lights of last year. This will take awhile so grab a cup or glass of your favorite beverage, sit back and enjoy!

The summer of 2014:

This is a very small sample of the grounds. Next is the Christmas out door display. A large portion of the grounds were closed for a renovation.

The tree consists of lighted spheres.

The final area is the conservatory which is always spectacular. Again, this is only touching on the spectacular displays.

 The entrance

The pink rose is for my DW. She loves pink.

This final picture is in the childrens garden.

That is it for this post. I would apologize for the length of it but if you are reading this you must have liked it. LOL. As Darnell says, life is short. Stop and enjoy the beauty all around you. Until the next post, LOVE THE DETAILS. The cahnge will surprise you.

  1. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous photos! Looks like a place I would enjoy. I will definitely check out the blogs you have spotlighted. I'm already familiar with JimLynn and do enjoy her work. I also enjoyed reading your post today. Often times when I am struggling or dealing with changes, I feel so alone. Your honesty is refreshing. Blessings.

  2. First of all, thanks so much for the shout out! You're a sweetheart! Don't ever sell yourself short either in saying you're not as talented as others!! You have more talent in your little finger than I'd ever have!!! I love your blog!

Kimberly's card is breath taking! I'll have to go over and check out her blog - and also Shirley's. Blogging friends are the best!

And speaking of breathtaking! Those photos of Longwood Garden are beyond breathtaking! WOW! So beautiful! I know you and Jill enjoy your time visiting there.

I took a nice break during Christmas and am just now trying to get back in the swing of things. I enjoyed the break but also enjoy making cards and blogging with so many wonderful people like you and Jill. Sometimes cards and such just have to take the back burner because as you say......life is short!

  12. I love your post Jim! Yes, change happens, sometimes for the better, sometimes not, but change is inevitable. I always enjoy your posts, your way of describing things really helps me and I always take inspiration from you. I think the only person I know from your shout outs is Lynn, and she is most certainly a sweetheart-so kind and fun to talk with. I have wanted to go to Longwood Gardens for about 20 years now, but it isn't something that interest DH so I will love it though your pictures, which are just stunning! Thank you for your posts, you always have the right things to say in your posts. Hugs, Brenda

  15. Jim, thanks so much for your thought provoking words. I too have a special place that though not now inaccesible, for health reasons I've been unable to get there for a few years. Your photos are stunning and the summer ones make me long for warm days, when I'll return to that special place and share some of it with you. I know you're humble, so humble, but you are SO talented in SO many ways. I must also admit that although I've followed Jill's blog for quite some time and I love her work as much as I love yours, I didn't realize that you two are married. For that I apologize!

Love, hugs, prayers and many blessings to you both.

  17. Hapoy New Year to you both!!! I adore your spectaculr photos of the gardens. I was just talking to my mom today of the time we went to Buchart Gardens in Victoria BC and how we went in Spring at the peak of loveliness, (this was when whe could get around -though she still was in a wheelchair - she lives with us)... She has a lovely album.

You sharing and showing us the sights here warms my very soul.. I wanted to get out and see Christmas lights this year, zoo lights, anything.. things got in the way. Thanks so much for sharing.

I am glad you like the card I sent. Thank you for the kind words.

I sure hope that in your wanderings that you will find another "zen" place that will become dear to your heart, I have special "magical" places like that too... I have many.. they are special memories you can tuck way and pull out when you need a moment of reflection.

    Peace to you both -
    The avid cardmaker Kimberly!

  24. I could get lost in all those photos of the gardens. So much greenery! So many living plants. So wonderful! Kim's card is awesome too. Is it embossed or is that embossing paste? Either way it is fabulous.

  26. TFS the pics from Longwood! I've been longing to go there for years, but I just can't do that much walking anymore, so I enjoyed seeing what I'm unable to see IRL. Wishing you and Jill a happy, healthy new year in 2015.

  27. How wonderful to see your post appear in my Feedly stream - and although I haven't commented yet, believe me, I've strolled through you beautiful gardens and treasured your heart-warming words several times over the past few days. Your decision to showcase the special people of this community: so incredibly marvelous! As for your comment that you 'lack' talent...NO WAY! You are incredibly so, be it cards, painting, photos, words...gifts that we all treasure and love!
    Hugs~c

  28. Gorgeous pictures, Jim! Those gardens would be on my itinerary if I ever got to your part of the world. Hubby was in Sugarloaf a couple years ago doing genealogy research & did have a chance to visit Gettysburg.

  29. Hi IC...just saw your comment at another blog, was able to click the link to hop over to wish you Happy New Year. Delighted to see you had a wonderful post to enjoy. As always, a pleasure to read the thoughts you express so well. Glad that your year is off to a good start and things are going so well for both of you folks. That's a beautiful card, and the gold really shows up well on the burgundy background. Talented lady, as are all the other bloggers you named off (and I'm pleased to 'know' some of them, and be amazed by their skills). Thanks for sharing those stunning photos of the Gardens. Some terrific photography & the sunny lawns were so pleasant to see on this very dreary gray day of rain. Loved the pink poinsettias too. Ya'll stay warm, and don't work too hard on your 'off-blogging'. Hey to Miz J. too. TFS & Blessings.

  30. Great post Jim. So glad you had positive changes in your life. There is no greater change than to be closer to God and closer to Jill. Wow. I am so happy for you. We all strive to have better cars, houses, clothes, toys, furniture, dies, papers, etc., but as none of that counts even one bit in the end, we are wasting our time and gifts. Reminds me of the scene of the Indian in that old commercial from the 70s where he is standing on the hill or river bank looking over all the trash and a tear is rolling down his face (hope you remember that one). I picture God with type of reaction to ALL the stupid stuff we do. He blesses us with money and we rarely think to save the starving across town or in another country or save the homeless - we give it to our churches so they can build a bigger church, or we buy a bigger car or send our kids to a better college, or buy the latest gadget. I am struggling with this personally right now - feeling convicted that I am wasting every gift I have. Well, enough of my babbling. Lovely post, lovely pictures, lovely CRAK, lovely thoughts. Hugz to you and sweet Jill.
