Isn't it funny how when we are young we look so much forward to a birthday. The presents, the parties, the fun and all that goes with it to make a birthday special. As we age all that changes. Oh, it is still there through our teens and early 20s. But from there the allure fades as do the parties and celebrations. It would seem life takes over and dulls all of those things. But every so often a spark and a light shines on that special day. For whatever reason, friends get together and celebrate that day that is special to an individual. We tend to forget that without that special day the celebration would not exist. Therefore it should be a very special time.
This is the day which Yahweh has made, a day for us to rejoice and be glad.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIRLEY
This will be shown at Maria's Rieslingmama for Shirley B's Birthday bash.
I am not used to creating specialized cards. As a general rule I do not have a lot of supplies that support that. So I had to get a little bit creative with this one. I am pleased with the results. As you can see, at first glance it is not traditional.

The imaged I used is from T AC which is no longer in business. It was colored with copics. That in itself is a shame because they had very nice images. The background paper is from the once upon a time Mat Stack. The ribbon and pin are from my stash. The doily trim is from Basic Gray, LLC and A white doily trim sticker from my stash.
I could not find a sentiment I liked so I made my own in Word and printed it on a light blue card stock from my stash. I hope this is suitable for a birthday card. I am pleased with the way it turned out. I certainly hope you like it Shirley.
Remember, always LOVE THE DETAILS.
For sure, this is a wonderful, beautiful birthday card. I love the pin and the image is beautiful. Very nice touch with the doily, too. Have a lovely Sunday.
ReplyDelete"Once upon a time" - how perfect! Thanks for creating a card for this special occasion and for coming to Shirley's party. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Jim! I love all the details you put into this. The doily border, the pin and ribbon. It all comes together wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteVery suitable for a birthday card and so lovely! The background paper and the doily stickers are just what that image needed too. Very dressy looking and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch up this afternoon, and wanted to wait to visit your blog until I had time to pause & enjoy what I knew would be waiting. I'm glad I did. This is a beautiful birthday card, very vintage and so appropriate for a birthday. Have to agree with your thoughts on birthdays. I can remember Mama saying "It's just another day" and thinking "What an awful attitude". Now I understand what she meant. Still a day to celebrate with loved ones, but mainly just to have THEM around & loving you. Your sentiment was absolutely spot on. With your gift of words, you don't need specific supplies to make a special card. This one is just perfect. TFS & now I'm off to enjoy some of your earlier posts that I missed. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jim, this is wonderful, and I agree - I just love this image and so sorry that TAC is no longer in business. Just love the vintage feel to this card and the beautiful embellishments and that wonderful border at the bottom! And the rich red grosgrain ribbon is yummy! I'm sure Shirley Shirley will cherish this one!! Thank you, my friend, for sharing this beauty! Hugs to you and Jill!

ReplyDeleteOh, Jim, this is beautiful! I love the vintage image (beautifully coloured) and the background, complemented so well by the pin, ribbon and doilies. You're right about birthdays coming around sooner than we would like, but I would still like them to keep coming around - not keen on the alternative ;)
