There is a dizzying number of translations for the bible. There are currently 900 English translations available ranging from word-for word to dynamic thought-for-thought versions. The number of languages it has been translated into is more than 3,500. I use 20+ versions as cross references in my studies. Why bother? The variability is interesting and provides a baseline to consider. Combine this with the experience of having attended many different churches gives a better understanding of what the beliefs of those institutions are.
This is a very short post this week. We have had many disruptions for health and other reasons. I will try to post something more in line with what this blog is all about, The Lord.
May the good Lord bless and keep you safe.
Remember to "Always Love The Details."

Yes, I have a few versions on m bookshelf, and many more available online, but my most used is my New King James....
ReplyDeletePraying your health issues resolve soon - unfortunately we tend to accumulate them as we age....

I had no idea there were that many English translations. Using twenty versions side by side sounds like a lot of work, but I can see why you’d want that baseline. Sorry to hear about the disruptions, hope things settle down for you soon.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were so many translations, Jim. How cool is that?
ReplyDeleteHello, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was very young and studying Polish philology, I learned that the Bible is the greatest bestseller in human history, but I didn't know that it had been translated into 3,500 languages. There are several Polish translations, including two significant, most popular ones.
Warm regards, and I wish you good health and a pleasant evening.
I too am surprised by the numbers involved.
ReplyDeleteKeeping you both so close in heart and prayer. Hugs xoxo
