(Psalm 118:24) This is the day the Lord has made. I shall rejoice and be glad in it. Today is the day we get our second Covid shot. It is not a given that this will end the need for yearly booster shots for this type of virus but it does give us some protection. We will still wear our masks and follow the guidelines to protect those around us and us. Praise the Lord for this and every day.
There are many things that have been chosen for a subject when writing for my posts. Some are repeats with different titles and some are new. Religious is a word that is used loosely by many. It covers all manner of beliefs both good and evil. If the beliefs of an individual are unknown it may or may not fit but when describing specific beliefs it is not proper. Just because someone goes to church every Sunday it does not mean they are religious. Just because someone rarely goes to church does not mean they are atheist. Being devout is a matter of how you practice your devotion and whether it is toward material, inanimate or other objects of devotion. Religion or Religious are not words I like using. I was asked while at work one day if, since I was a Christian, I could explain what Christianity is. That was a high compliment to me but also a rather difficult question to answer. When I asked why I was seen as a Christian, I was told that the way I treat everyone was what a Christian would do. I do not know what belief system this person practiced but they were searching for something more. We had a rather nice conversation and I tried to explain Christianity was a way of life that is based on other than self. It is a deeply personal belief. It was obvious that they had looked at and researched many other "religions" but were not happy with what they found. How I treated others was something that impressed him. Being a Christian is obviously different than just being religious. Being as Christ is more than being devout. It is being as Christ was, aware of and sensitive to others. Caring about them and paying attention to their needs no matter what the situation you or they are in. It involves the heart and soul. That is not something that is easily explained without taking taking time to do so. In fact, I am not sure that can be put into words in a way that is adequate for an explanation. The best explanation of being a Christian is to follow Christ and be as Christ like as possible.
Today I am sharing an image that appeared as a card on the Ribbon challenged blog. I colored it several years ago but never created a card with it. I don't remember if this particular image was ever posted on my blog. It is a gorgeous stamp and a wonderful image to color.
Her name is Lizzie. I guess I need to do another rendition of her.

ReplyDeleteOur shots are coming nearer.... must get my 'flu shot first, as they like a two week gap between that and the covid one.
ReplyDeleteTo me being Christian also means accepting Christ as saviour, thus recognising our need for forgiveness of our sinful ways, then we are empowered by the holy spirit to live like Christ - doesn't mean to say we are instantly and totally successful in that, but we grow to be more and more like Christ under the Spirit's influence.
Loving your colouring Jim, it is amazing, and that image is gorgeous
Stay safe
Blessings

The image is absolutely beautiful. Like you, I dislike the words religion and religious for reasons we've discussed at length privately. Faith is such a personal thing xoxo
