Angels

I have purposely avoided writing about this subject for many reasons. I do believe in angels. They are real to me and I also believe we all have guardian angels. I have often heard some one say that a loved one has gone to heaven and they now have their wings or that the loved one is now an angel. I can find nothing in scripture that says we become angels when we pass over. Man was created apart from angels and has no part in becoming an angel. Scripture often refers to angels as being messengers of God but nowhere in scripture do I find any reference to them having wings; flying yes but no mention of wings. I do believe they can appear to us in any form they wish or according to our belief. Scripture often speaks of angels as strong formidable beings wielding authority and a presence that is fearful and imposing. Angels are also presented so like us in appearance that we would have a difficult time recognizing them as angels unless they chose to make themselves known as angels. I know a doctor that had a first time patient that he examined that was so perfect in physical health and bodily perfection he had to leave the room to take a minute to collect his thoughts. When he went back into the room the man was gone. The man would have had to pass by the doctor to leave the examination room. No one passed him on the way out. To this day he swears that patient was an angel. Are angels real? I have had several encounters with individuals that left me wondering who they were. Kind, gentile and quick to bless you no matter the situation, the realization is often delayed from the time of visually seeing and mental connection. By that time they are gone. Have you had an encounter with an angel, something you cannot easily explain? They are defined as messengers, guardians and warriors. Do you believe in angels?

This image is from Stamps Happen. It is titled "Angel Of Purity". The detail is small and fine. Love it.

Solomon's Request

Each week I strive to touch on something that has been encountered during the week before. This week I am commenting on a subject that has been an ongoing thing throughout my life. I am as guilty as anyone in committing this error. How often do you read something and incorporate it into what you think is a bit of wisdom only to find out later it was bogus? How willing are you to remove that bogus information from your life in favor of the truth? As the Quote above says wisdom is not from books alone. Wisdom is often a learned life experience and is more often than not variable in its use and understanding. Wisdom should be something we ask for from the Lord to guide us in our path through life. Wisdom is often the path to knowledge. It is what Solomon asked for so that he could be a true leader and guide for God's people, the Israelites. (2 Chronicles 1:10-12) Wisdom is not something that we know we have or are using. It is the fool that thinks he is wise when all those around him only see a fool. Knowledge from a book is nothing more that knowledge from a book. How that knowledge is put to use may or may not be wisdom. Wisdom will directly benefit those other than the wise man in most cases. God loves the person who seeks wisdom to serve others. Knowledge without wisdom is only knowledge. Seek wisdom, God's wisdom, to prosper in this life as well as the life to come.

This image has been in my pile of uncolored images for some time. It intimidated me. Not really sure where it came from but it is beautiful and challenging. It is obviously a drawing. Such talent I wish I had.

Choice

Every so often I come across a quote or saying that hits a nerve. One of my all time favorite poet/philosophers is Kahlil Gibran. I have several of his books. I used to read them often for the wisdom they contain as well as the thought they provoke. This quote is true on many fronts. Think about it for awhile and you will see the truth in it. The choice of our path through life is the source of our joy and sorrow. What we see as the wants and needs in our life, the choice of life long partners, whether or not we will have children and even our choices in clothing. Our choice of religion is a big choice of joys and sorrow. What we expect from our choices is perfection. That alone is where joy and sorrow is greatest. We expect all of our expectations to be met and that is just never going to become a reality. The sad thing is that when we lower our expectations we are saddened with disappointment. Religion (I dislike that term: I prefer Christianity) is the only place where the sadness can be filled with joy more often than not. It is the place where love is the cup we should be drinking from. As with everything else in this imperfect life there can be joy and sadness in Christianity too.

The image I  am sharing is of  Lizzie from Sugar Nellie. I have adjusted the Stamp so it is faint enough that the lines are all but invisible. It makes it harder to color but the results are remarkable.

As you can see the finished image is quite different from the expected. The image changed considerably. I think it is beautiful. The photo does not do the finished product justice at all.

Possessions

Have you ever given any thought to what you want in life? Are possessions your focus? Are riches your focus? Is knowledge or fame your focus? Look around you. What have you collected or amassed that will be going with you to the grave? What will be here for those who will be left behind? were they the reason for what you have gathered together? What other questions have you asked yourself as you travel the paths set before you in this life? The Brainy Quote this week says it all for me. We all come into this world wanting things. We spend our lives wanting things and eventually wanting things we cannot have. Possessions are only temporary. They exist only so long as we are on this earth. They cease to exist when we return to the earth. For us they are temporary. When our body no longer has life in it what will we be taking with us when we pass from this life? All of our possessions will be left behind for someone else to enjoy or not. Do you believe in life after death? What will you take with you to that life when you enter into it? Some of the richest and fullest lives have few possessions but are rich in the life they live and share. Possessions tend to make us selfish and jealous of others. This in turn takes away from the fullness of the riches inside us. Do you ever feel empty inside. Could it be the kind of riches you have stored within? The best way to fill the void inside is to fill it with love, compassion and devotion for others and, especially for Jesus.
Today I am sharing a redo of a Sugar Nellie image. It saddens me that Sugar Nellie is no longer in business. They were one of my all time favorites. This is Lizzie.
