Promises

Scripture is full of promise and fulfillment, the greatest of which is Jesus dying for our sins.
(There is in the Heb. OT no special term for the concept or act of promising. Where our English translations say that someone promised something, the Hebrew simply states that someone said or spoke (’āmardāḇar) some word with future reference. In the NT the technical term, epangelia, appears chiefly in Acts, Galatians, Romans and Hebrews.)
((epangelia). n. promise. A pledge to do something that obligates the pledger to follow through. In the nt, epangelia usually refers to God’s promises (e.g., Acts 2:39; Rom 4:13). )

What Is It?

What is my faith but a wish

Realized in the distance,

Veiled in the faint mist

Of a long steadfast promise.

What is this steadfast promise

That cannot be seen

Nor grasped with the mind

But tasted with every sense?

What is this that my senses

Reveal to my very being

With a reality and awareness

Sharp as a bitter wind?

It is a smile

Broad as the span of space

And long as time immortal

Having no place to go.

It is a flutter of my heart

At a sigh of my loves breath

That makes my heart sing

And calms me to sleep.

It is a passing cloud

Glowing white against the blue,

Casting reflections

In clear beautiful eyes.

It is the lasting gift

That is the softness of love

Shining through our love

To give heart to the hopeless.

It is a revelation

Of wonder filled truth

Proclaiming to all everywhere

"GOD TRULY LIVES."

My Heart Sings

My heart sings out in song.

How happy is the morning light,

Gay and dazzling in the throng

Of doves in swift and graceful flight.

My heart sings out in song

To see the rising of the sun

And know that all day long

My life anew has just begun.

My heart sings out in song

With humbled loving fare

Clear as a distant gong

Just knowing you are there.

A New day

Today is a new day;

Unlike yesterday or tomorrow.

It is a new life

Without loneliness or sorrow.

Today is a new way;

Different from yours or mine.

It is a new smile,

Warmed with golden sunshine.

Today is a new song;

Living in the melody of love.

It is a new theme

Gentle as a singing dove.

Today is a new life;

Touched by a loving friend.

It is a new feeling

Embraced as a Godsend.
