April 2, 2014 Wisdom

Wisdom cannot be taught but is a gift of inner sight.
  Socrates Quote
Have you ever heard the phrase "out of the mouth of babes?" I know you have and it is interesting to note that little nugget of wisdom or truth came from somewhere that was, almost always not taught. So where did it come from? Pure innocence and a God given sense of what is or should be. Some wisdom can be gained through life experiences but often it is the result of seeing everything though a loving heart. In the last post knowledge was one of the things Solomon asked God to give him. Without Wisdom that knowledge was useless. Because he asked for both God gave him everything else he could have asked for. Psalms 2:10-15 "When wisdom comes into your heart and knowledge fills your soul with delight, then prudence will be there to watch over you, and understanding will be your guardian to keep you from the way that is evil, from those whose speech is deceitful, from those who leave the paths of honesty to walk the roads of darkness: those who find their joy in doing wrong, and their delight in deceitfulness, whose tracks are twisted, and the paths that they tread crooked."
The New Jerusalem Bible. (1985). (Pr 2:10–15). New York: Doubleday.

One of THE favorite places for me as far as gorgeous images is a place in Finland called Imagine and Do. This is the final time I will share this image on my blog. It is the image that captured my interest and, in a way, my heart. Look into those eyes and you will know why.
The eyes in this artist's images just blow me away. There are very soft suggestions where the shadowing should be but not so much that you can't do otherwise. This image could easily be made into a true portrait. I was so taken with the images from this artist that I insisted that I make the card.

There were extra braids and other embellishments included in the package. I colored and used the braids to frame the image. I am not very versed in the terminology for the items used to do the card but I did make the image large enough for you to see everything. This was one of my very first images on my very first post.
Next we are going to share a Thomas Kinkade image. This one is Fly Fisherman. A rather small but still demanding image. This is from Cornish Heritage Farms. Not sure if this one is still available but the above link is the place to look. The line of stamps is still getting larger.
My DW at Ribbon Challenged is good at doing cards and the card for this image is a nice "guy" card.
Hope you enjoyed your visit and will consider popping by again. Next week and the following week I am going to step out of my comfort zone and attempt to create a few cards. That should be good for a laugh if nothing else. Both weeks I will be featuring Our Daily Bread stamps. Now it gets real interesting, huh? Until then ...... LOVE THE DETAILS.

  1. Wow, a really thought provoking post tonight. The bits about the evil way and those who find joy in doing wrong, really fit the state of our world today, I think. So sadly and I wonder why - and from where all this evil comes (I think I know though!). The top image reminds me of a place in Arizona, around the Grand Canyon, but I can't remember what the place is called. This is beautiful. Love that face too. You have really captured the shading and contouring on this beautiful image, and loved the green eyes. It's difficult to look away once you look at this picture. Loved the way you've made the card with the beautiful lacy S/B and then interwoven the braids into the matting. Well done! I don't think you'll find anybody smiling over your card making skills. Loved the CHF fisherman too. I have that TK and have never used it. I can just guess how hard it was to color. Jill surely turned it into a smashing card, with that beautiful fish embellie. A perfect embossing on the mat face, as it made me think of water ripples and the scalloped & embossed inlay inside the window was a beautiful frame to this fisherman. You guys made a swell team. TFS the beautiful cards and also the words of wisdom. Ya'll have a nice evening. We hit 83 today. Car a/c got turned on first time this season. Think we've gone from winter to summer in one day.

  4. Oh my, that image really is gorgeous and you coloured her so very, very beautifully! Also she reminds me a little of Kate Blanchett! I adore the card you made too. Framing the image with the braids was a great idea and works really well, especially on the neutral coloured background!
The TK is also gorgeous! And of course phenomenal colouring. And a great card by your DW. The complete package! x

Wow fabulous colouring of these images, face face is beautiful, both cards are stunning!1 I will look forward to seeing your card making attempt, when I first started my style was clean and simple and I struggled to fill an A6 card,. now I I dont like anything smaller than 6 by 6 and I love to embellish, I have learned alot from looking at the work of others and trying out new ideas.
best of luck with the card making.

  14. So much to ponder and applaud in your post, Jim! The importance of an open, loving heart to bring us the gift of wisdom - thank you for bringing this to light. Your colouring of the Imagine and Do image is nothing short of stellar; those green-eyes certainly are captivating. Stunning! As for your fly-fisherman...memories of a River Runs Through It, which I shared with students many times when I was teaching. Such technique and grace, which you've captured so well here. The card that emerged highlights the image's striking 'handsome-ness' wonderfully! I'm delighted that you'll be creating cards; I predict plenty of 'awesome' will be happening, especially because you will pay such close attention to 'the details.' We are in for a treat....Speaking of treats: your comments on my blog! You sure know how to add colour and sparkle to my day, and the days of all the others who are graced with your visits! So glad you're part of this community!

  23. Hi there - thank you so much for the comments on my card - I do have a vivid imagination (unfortunately sometimes) and a wicked sense of humour! I thought I would just pop over and check out your blog and I now have an image of you in the rabbit pyjamas and I am not surprised you are blushing - although I am cackling away here! As for your creations, your colouring is superb and those eyes are a-mazing, they follow me as I move around my craft room. I am now a new follower (blog-willing) and am already looking forward to seeing your cards.
