The song is the voice of the heart
spoken melodiously.
Quote for Today: "A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song."
Chinese
Proverb
Unfortunately in today's world all too often music has become anything but a true song. I have a strong respect for you, the card makers and artists, who hear the song in your heart. You turn that song into something that others can see and therefore hear. Most do not see it that way but the poet, philosopher, and seeker in me finds it to be a bright beacon in a world that can be very dark and dispassionate. My DW (Dear Wife) impressed me with her creating cards to send to others that their day might have hope and a bright spot. It is part of the reason for my doing her coloring for her where I can. There is a song to be sung. It cannot be composed or brought into being without the compassion and heart of such as you or her. We are not perfect but the song is. There is no price to be paid, it cannot be bought. It is a free gift from heart to heart. Blessings to all.
A good song accompanied by beautiful music is like a graceful butterfly. I often see cards created by you that are graceful and have a beauty all their own. I thought it only fitting to share a few of my favorite creatures. Butterflies. The first one is called the Peacock (Inachis IO) butterfly.
This butterfly is fairly large at 2
to 2.5 inch wing span. It inhabits grass lands parks and yards. It is attracted
to buddleia. Its range is Europe, cooler parts of Asia and Japan.
This is a
blue Swallow Tail Butterfly. I spent several hours trying to find information
on this one. If memory serves me correctly this one took several days to find
anything so it could be colored properly. Jill did make a card from this image
as you can see. Nice job.
This one is
a little easier. This is an IO Moth. Wingspan is 2 to 3 3/8 inches. It inhabits Deciduous forests, open woodland, scrub, fields and yards. The above images were
gotten some time ago from the internet. they were part of several sheets of
images. They could be from woodworking sites and were offered as templates. All
I know is they were free and they were accurate. Hopefully my coloring is too.
I do like
photography too. I have a few photos of butterflies that you may like.
This is a
Red Admiral caught in flight just before landing on the end of a twig.
Beautiful and hard to photograph. It kept taking off as I got close.
This is a
Red Spotted Purple. This photo does not capture the brilliant metallic blue of
the wings.
One more and
that will be it for today.
This one
most of you in the states will recognize as a Tiger Swallow tail. I am always
on the lookout for something different to shoot with my camera. Nature is a
wonderful palate. Birds, flowers, animals and yes, insects. People are easy. These subjects are not. Stay tuned. There are even more surprises. It may not be
coloring that I do but I still LOVE THE DETAILS.
Very cool post - great inspirational words, lovely coloring on your butterflies, super card, and wonderful pictures! Well done and very inspiring! Hugz!
ReplyDeleteAll creatures great and small..............Love all the butterflies! The ones you colored are so pretty and the photos are wonderful. Yes, it's very hard to catch those things on camera but you've done a wonderful job of it. We see so many butterflies in the spring and summer out here where we live. Love it when the monarchs migrate through this way - so many beautiful wings.

Gorgeous butterflies! Wonderful coloring and Jill made a beautiful card. Your photography is super. I used to have a Buddleia, milkweed, and several perennials and maybe some biennials for the butterflies. My butterfly garden has kind of turned into a hydrangea bed with other miscellaneous plants. I can't work in the yard as much now that I am addicted to cards. But, I do try and love to be out there.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love butterflies! And your coloring and Jill's cards?! This is wonderful, Jim. Your photos are magnificent!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I don't know much about butterflies other than the fact that they look pretty, but I know a little more now, so thank you! And I love the way you've described the making and sending of handmade cards... It's perfect, and may we all keep the song alive! x
ReplyDeleteFab photos - gorgeous butterflies and lovely cards!
ReplyDeleteYou're not only a cook & philosopher, but a terrific photographer as well. How do you find time for all these interesting & varied hobbies? Loved reading this post, some very good thoughts to ponder on the introduction. The butterfly photos are stunning, (and since I struggle with a camera, I was most impressed!). Loved the card from DW, and will be off to pay a visit there shortly. Playing catchup on visiting, and thanks so much for a most enjoyable browse here today.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your complement to me as a card maker - we oft times doubt ourselves :-).
ReplyDeleteLove the butterflies - you have some beautiful images there.
Blessings
Maxine
All of the butterflies are beautiful, both the ones you colored and the photographs. Yes, I agree with your comment you left - each shovel-ful of snow weighed 50 pounds, but we got closer to 9" here. I'm surprised I'm still alive after shoveling half the driveway, all of the front sidewalk and the back deck for dessert! I'm completely whipped :(
ReplyDeleteWish I had someone to color for me. My coloring needs lots of improvement! I leave your blog feeling inspired! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! :). The butterflies are so beautiful! There is just something magical about the littlest of God's creatures! Butterflies and hummingbirds are 2 of my favorites!!
